New Virginia Majority Education Fund

New Virginia Majority Education Fund, in partnership with the Virginia Civic Engagement Table, is launching a statewide leadership development program.

Over the next year, we are working to build key institutional capacities that set the stage for more unity, power, and impact. We will do this by strengthening inter-organizational culture around shared and accountable work of developing leaders who are passionate and can both learn from and lead a movement around a shared vision and values.

The proposed program takes a bottom up approach to identifying, recruiting, training and supporting grassroots leaders to run for local and state offices.  Leaders who come from base communities have a firm grasp on issues that impact their everyday lives and can increase the engagement of the people in their communities.

We are seeking a conscious and skilled individual with a deep commitment to social and economic justice who will be responsible for implementing this program. The Leadership Pipeline Developer reports directly to the co-executive director of New Virginia Majority Education Fund and works closely with an advisory council made up of organizational partners from the Virginia Civic Engagement Table (VCET).

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with advisory council to develop recruitment plan
  • Conduct leadership assessment of VCET partners’ membership base
  • Work with local community leaders and organizations to identify and recruit individuals for the program
  • Identify and/or create group training opportunities such as Camp Wellstone
  • Work with each program participant to create individual development plans with concrete goals and timelines
  • By the end of the first year, recruit at least 15 leaders who will be ready to run for office within three years
  • Extensive travel throughout the Commonwealth to meet with community leaders and organizations

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in organizing, campaigns or advocacy
  • Knowledge of Virginia progressive landscape
  • Successful experience working in coalitions
  • Must be flexible, creative and assume high accountability for all areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines; able to develop and move projects forward with independence and autonomy
  • Background and commitment to social and economic justice work

This position is full-time and is eligible for NVM-EF’s full package of benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, as well as monthly phone and transportation allowances.
