Development Associate  

New Virginia Majority (NVM) is Virginia’s leading civic engagement organization.  We mobilize and organize voters of color and residents across the state. Our year-round approach to organizing involves mass scale voter outreach, linked to ongoing community organizing campaigns and intensive leadership development.  NVM is currently expanding its team. We are seeking a conscious and skilled individual with a deep commitment to social change.

The Development Associate works closely with and reports to a Co-Executive Director. S/he will lead NVM’s foundation fundraising efforts, grant tracking and over time diversification of our income sources.  The ideal candidate will be results oriented, a strategic thinker, with good writing skills.

Responsibilities:

Grant Writing and Grassroots Fundraising Strategy and Implementation

• Write compelling foundation proposals and reports.
• Develop systems to track and evaluate progress.
• Work closely with staff to design and implement grassroots (email, members and small donors) fundraising program.

Qualifications:

• Background and commitment to social justice work and demonstration of strong personal commitment to NVM’s mission and values.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, motivational skills, work ethic, and desire for political change.
• Must be flexible, creative and assume accountability for areas of responsibility.
• Excellent writing skills – experience writing foundation grants a plus.
• Ability to think strategically, and manage time effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines; able to develop and write grants with high levels of independence and autonomy.

Salary & Benefits:
This position is full-time and is eligible for NVM’s full package of benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, as well as monthly phone and transportation allowances.
