Join the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for a Hearing on Payday Loans at the Richmond Convention Center
At 12 p.m. Thursday March 26th, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will hold a field hearing on payday lending in Richmond, VA, at the Richmond Convention Center.
Please attend if you can, and pass the word in any case. The CFPB is working on new guidelines to end abuses in payday, car title, and installment lending. We expect big news at this event, and we need to send the message loud and clear that we need a tough, comprehensive rule to #STopTheDebtTrap and protect vulnerable borrowers. The payday lenders themselves are likely to turn out their own staff to defend their 300% plus interest rate loans. We need to be louder than they are!
Please RSVP here if you’re able to attend. We’ll take care of contacting the CFPB to reserve your spot.(And, if you are in the DC metro area you can join us on our charter bus down. Details can be found on the RSVP form.)
At 11 a.m. we will gather outside the convention center in support of a strong payday rule. Then we will head into the hearing together.
The hearing will feature remarks by CFPB Director Richard Cordray, along with panels of consumer advocates and industry representatives. It will be a chance for consumer groups, civil rights groups and the public to help the Bureau hear the voices of families and communities impacted by the payday-lending debt trap.
So when you RSVP, be sure to let us know if you have a story, question or statement that you would like to share.
If you have any questions or comments, please reply to stopthedebttrap@
We look forward to standing together with you in Richmond for a strong payday rule!
Sincerely,
Gynnie Robnett and Jim Lardner
